Snow Day Treat

It’s the first snow day here in Wisconsin!

Finally, my children have some snow to take their (new to them) vintage wooden sled out that they got for Christmas.

See the sled there on the right of the Christmas tree?

Today was like Christmas morning all over again. They bounced out of bed at 6 AM, shoveled their breakfast down and were dressed and out the door by 7 AM, excited to go play in the snow.

We did our farm chores first but then they hit the hills. They had a BLAST on that old sled. If I didn’t have Nellie Jo in my arms, I surely would’ve gave it a try too.

Since it was still snowing and really windy yet, they all had rosey-red cheeks and were ready to come in and warm up by 9 AM.

Of course they were begging for Hot Chocolate, which I considered, I means it’s not everyday that there’s a snow day after all!

But since I needed to get some work done today and it was only 9 AM, I decided to make Warm Cinnamon Milk instead.

Maybe we will have Hot Chocolate after the afternoon sledding session?

Here’s my recipe for both just incase you want to make some warm treats today too!

Warmed Cinnamon Milk

24 oz (3 C) whole milk (or milk of choice)

Warm on stove in sauce pan on medium low heat until steaming and starting to bubble. Make sure to stir frequently to constantly to keep from burning milk.

Have a large mason jar, your milk frother or hand held blender ready.

Add 2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp vanilla

1 TBLS real maple syrup

1 TBLS collagen powder (optional)

Pour into mason jar with lid and shake vigorously until well blended and frothy or use blender to achieve the same results.

Pour into mugs and serve as is!

Makes four 6 oz small servings which I find best for my crew.

Otherwise, if I make more, then it gets cold before they finish and I am reheating it over and over, which is not what I want to be doing all day.

For mom to get through the snow day, feel free to add a shot of espresso or coffee to your mug.

Those eyes say it all! Pure JOY.

For Hot Chocolate…

It is very similar to the Warm Cinnamon Milk recipe above.

Add 24 oz (3 C) whole milk (or milk of choice) to sauce pan and heat on medium low heat until steamy and starting to bubble. Make sure to stir frequently to constantly to keep from burning milk.

Have a large mason jar, your milk frother or hand held blender ready.

Add 3 TBLS unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp vanilla

3 TBLS real maple syrup

1 TBLS collagen powder (optional)

Pour into mason jar with lid and shake vigorously until well blended and frothy or use blender to achieve the same results.

Pour into mugs and serve as is or add your favorite marshmallows, leftover candy canes, or real whipped cream.

Enjoy your snow day!

Love,

Darci

PS. I drove by the grocery store on my way to pick up the kids from school yesterday. It looked like a ZOO with everyone stocking up on food planning to be snowed in for a day or two.

I’m always so thankful that we have a freezer full of meat so I don’t have to worry about stocking up when the stores are crazy.

A crowded store is just too “peoplely” for a farm girl like me and I avoid it at all costs.

If you feel the same and would like sign up for our Pork Subscription Box where you get a portion of pork delievered right to your door each month…

Today is the last day to order to get yours until we open up ordering again this FALL.
